Mechanical Fitter (182jc) – Derby – £28 – 32k + Benefits


My client, who is a leader in the Pyrotechnical marketplace is now seeking to recruit 2 Mechanical Fitters to join their team.


You will be reporting to the Site Services Supervisor and your role will be to maintain, manufacture and install equipment and production facilities to ensure the timely and effective completion of the company’s manufacturing commitments.


Therefore, your key accountabilities & responsibilities will include:

·         To participate in a Planned Preventative Maintenance scheme to ensure the safety and reliability of all equipment, buildings, and site services.

·         To give support and share knowledge with other members of the department during maintenance and manufacturing tasks to ensure a safe and effective result.

·         To participate in the engineering risk assessment process to help ensure the safest possible work environment.

·         To implement all relevant delegated health and safety responsibilities and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

·         To assist with departmental jobs and projects.

·         To encourage others to work safely and report any situation or event that may adversely affect safety to ensure that a safe working environment is maintained and improved.

·         To undertake training as and when required.

·         To complete time sheets as required and all maintenance paperwork fully.

·         Implementation of maintenance systems (PPM) to ensure the reliability and safety of equipment and facilities across site to ‘ALARP’ status.

·         To undertake any other duties within the company that are, requested to aid the performance of the company. These duties will not be of a greater or more complex nature and level of responsibility than those of the post holder, except with the appropriate mutual agreement and necessary training.

·         To carry out the duties above in a manner that complies with the Health and Safety at Work Legislation, that is to work safely and with due regard to health, safety and welfare of both themselves and of any other employees in the company.


To be eligible for this role you will need the following skills and experience

·         A wide range of basic engineering skills including fitting, fault finding, welding and the use of machine tools.

·         Ability to read technical drawings

·         Basic computer skills

·         An understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic circuits and appreciation of working safely with electrical controls and equipment

·         Good verbal and written communication

·         Experience in an engineering environment

·         An approved apprenticeship and or City & Guilds in a relevant engineering subject

·         Ability to work well in a team environment

·         Flexible approach to work types and overtime

·         Determination, self-motivation, enthusiasm


The ideal candidate would be someone who has experience in using presses, hydraulics, pneumatics etc.


As I said, they are looking for two candidates and the shifts are as follow:


1.         Mechanical Fitter days – permanent.  38hrs/wk – 7am – 5pm Mon – Thur

2.         Mechanical Fitter nights – temporary (12mths).  38hrs/wk – – 8pm – 6am Mon – Thur


In return they are offering a good starting salary as well as company pension, 23 days + Bank Holidays, company bonus scheme.
