Our client is one of the oldest and, more recently, one of the largest independent merchants operating from within the UK directly focusing on supplying to the commercial and industrial mechanical services sector.
They are currently looking for a safety supervisor to be based at their Newcastle branch who will be charged with looking after the Sheffield, Leeds, Newcastle, Glasgow, and Dundee Branches. You will be part of a small team led by the Senior H&S Manager and will be joining at a time where the business is again expanding. The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring the Branches maintain and meet compliance and safety levels in the warehouse and office areas. The applicant must hold NEBOSH (Gen) and ideally either the Lift Truck Instructors qualification (not essential) or, have Lift Truck experience (the client will put you through the instructor’s course, but you must have held a lift truck qualification for more than 12 months) as the role also includes some instruction on MHE.
The role is to conduct the usual H&S matters, audits, advising, assessments, safety training, some PAT testing etc. Additionally, training will be given for ISO 9001 internal auditing, you will be responsible for training employees on material handling equipment, lift truck, gantry crane & lorry loader (HIAB) and complete the necessary documentation/certification. Training will be provided for any additional qualifications that may be required for example, manual handling instructors, PAT, Asbestos awareness etc. Experience in warehousing would be great but again, not essential as
There will be occasions where staying out overnights will be necessary (could be as frequent as once per week but this does vary and some weeks there will be no requirement to stay out), the successful candidate will, to a degree, run their own diary so they must be reliable, honest, proactive and well organised. They will also need to hold excellent communication skills as they will regularly meet with all employees from drivers to Regional Directors.
The package is as follows, Basic salary £32k plus yearend bonus >10% (dependent on the success of the business for that financial year), Company Car (currently a brand new BMW330E) changed every three years, you will have a choice on the next car change, Company credit card, mobile phone and Laptop.
