Job Description: Veterans’ Peer Support Worker
Location: South East: Virtual/Telephone based role serving South East England (Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Sussex, Kent, Surrey, Berkshire, Oxford and Buckinghamshire.
Salary: £20,000 – £23,000 according to experience and responsibilities.
Position Type: Full Time / Shift Pattern / Flexible
Contract Type: Fixed Term 1-2 years with possibility of extending beyond term.

We’re looking for someone who can join our workforce of highly motivated, compassionate staff to help members of the veteran community and their families access support in a number of key areas, including mental health treatment, social care, housing and employment. You’ll be working within a multi-disciplinary team as part of a wider NHS led collaboration.
You’ll work with our clients to help them regain their confidence, independence and self-value by supporting them in the aforementioned areas and working with trusted service delivery partners to create a ‘whole world’ care and support plan that offers tangible, long-term improvements to their quality of life.
The right candidate will have experience in working with vulnerable adults. They will be comfortable handling multiple complex clients and will have impeccable administration and communication skills. They will be able to build trust and rapport with clients and partners over the phone, video chat and other digital channels. Effective time management skills are crucial to this role, a successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a history of sticking to timings and managing diaries. They will be self motivated and comfortable working with colleagues to cover a shift pattern that covers 5 days out of 7 a week including alternate weekends.
Though not essential, experience of working with client/patient management systems in the NHS or the third sector is preferable. As an online/telephone role, digital/technical competency is a must. A successful candidate will be confident in using Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Skype Video, soft telephony systems and other digital communication software.
As the role will be working with veterans and their families, a strong connection to the UK Armed Forces is a plus. If you’re a veteran, please let us know in the application process. While this is not a clinical role, it is likely that you will regularly be involved in conversations around trauma and distressing experiences. The right candidate will have considered this and how it may affect their personal health and wellbeing.
Though no two days are the same in this line of work, the majority of your time will be spent speaking with clients, managing diaries and appointments, discussing care pathways with a multidisciplinary team, making introductions/referrals into service delivery partners and supporting clients as they navigate the veteran welfare landscape. Unlike traditional ‘signposting’, you will be involved with your client from their onboarding, all the way through their care/support pathway and beyond.
We’ll support you as you develop career making skills in the support sector, and provide comprehensive, translatable training and qualifications. As a growing enterprise, progression is encouraged and opportunities to pick up new skills and responsibilities are available.
